Annually, the Brain Injury Association of Michigan's Legacy Society recognizes its newest contributing members at the Spring Tribute Dinner. The Annual Meeting of Members, held each year on the first Saturday in May, is planned in conjunction with our Spring Fling! The Annual Meeting provides an opportunity for members to hear reports about the Association’s activities, celebrate its achievements, and recognize selected members for their achievements! This is an opportunity for the Association members to give their thoughts and input directly to board members about the issues or activities important to them. Each year the Brain Injury Association of Michigan (BIAMI) honors
organizations, programs, professionals and/or persons by the
presentation of awards for outstanding contributions to the Brain Injury
Association of Michigan and in the field of brain injury services. May 5, 2012 Mark your calendars! May 16, 2012

September 26, 2012 Lansing, Michigan The purpose of this one-day summit is to provide state-of-the art information about combat brain injury programs, treatment and research, which will provide optimum outcomes for quality of life and military service reintegration opportunities. This summit is designed to benefit DoD, VA and private sector personnel engaged in management and care of troops exposed to potential TBI in field and post-deployment situations. Specific information will be provided about mild TBI, Neuro-cognitive Rehabilitation, the VA Assisted Living Program, TBI Blast Research, Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialist (ACBIS) Certification Program, and an opportunity to hear from and talk directly to soldiers/Marines injured in combat and their families about how they were injured, the rehabilitation programs received, and the impact TBI has had upon their lives.
The Brain Injury Association of Michigan understood up front, that breaking through the barriers to providing help was paramount to its success. The barriers that are naturally inherent within the structured “Military Culture” had to be knocked down in order to get the message through to even begin to address the “Invisible Wounds” like traumatic brain injury (TBI). Recreational programs, like fishing, hunting, and sporting events, help melt away the obstacles that combat has built. Just ask the thousands of Veterans that the program has treated to these recreation events over the years; Nothing is better than spending time outdoors together with other Veterans. Nothing has helped to open the doors more than these programs. The message is simple…. “TBI is treatable.” These events also provide a great opportunity for us all to gather and say “thank you” to those who have served or continue to serve our nation. The Brain Injury Association of Michigan Veterans Program and the Michigan Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America are proud to announce that the Safari Club International’s Lansing Chapter and the South East Michigan Bow Hunters Chapters, along with the Pheasants Forever Ingham & Livingston County Chapters, the hunting clubs below, and numerous other sponsors, are all joining forces to host free Veteran & Military Service Member “Pheasant Hunts” across Michigan !!

Encourage your cheering section to create posters, bring signs, wave pompoms, etc. The winning team of the tournament will receive the annual tournament trophy with your group name added to the trophy. The BIAMI Volleyball Tournament trophy will be a traveling trophy which belongs to the BIAMI but will reside with the winner to display at their location for the year. Winners will return the trophy at the following year’s Tips-Up event and try to defend their “reigning champion” title. Of course, it would be very appropriate to display this trophy at all BIAMI and other organizational functions throughout the year to get a little competition going between our groups. How awesome would it be to be the FIRST to win? To enter your team, please contact Erin Moore at (734) 677-0070 extension 381 by June 1st. GO TEAM GO!
