For those in the community who live with a brain injury or who work in the brain injury community, education is a key part of what the Brain Injury Association of Michigan offers. While education and outreach activities play a part in every program at the Association, there are specific programs whose primary focus is educating communities and professionals about brain injury. The largest educational brain injury conference each year is in Michigan! The BIAMI Annual Conference offers leading experts from around the globe, offering state-of-the-art information about brain injury treatment, therapies, latest research findings and best-practice techniques. Additionally for professionals, the Annual Conference is the place to meet and network with professionals working in all disciplines related to brain injury. The Academy for the Certification for Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS) offers a voluntary national certification program for both entry-level staff and experienced professionals working in brain injury services. ACBIS provides staff and professionals the opportunity to learn important information about brain injury, to demonstrate their learning in a written examination, and to earn a nationally recognized credential. Certification is based on a comprehensive training manual that covers the following topics: Each spring and fall the Association offers a Review Course, in Grand Rapids and Howell, for all whom are preparing for the examination. complementary and alternative medicine. Many Americans use
complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in pursuit of health and
well-being. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative
Medicine defines CAM as a group of diverse medical and health care
systems, practices, and products. Many of have taken the approach to
integrate both conventional and CAM treatments for which there is

Frequently families move on from hospital and rehabilitation settings with many unanswered questions about brain injury. This program, designed for family members of people who have sustained brain injuries offers a presentation and forum for questions. The presentation provides an overview of brain injury including the common effects of brain injury, strategies and tips for caregivers, stages of grief and what resources are available to help them in Michigan. This program, designed for direct care givers, offers a presentation and forum for questions. The presentation provides an overview of brain injury including the common effects of brain injury, strategies and tips for caregivers, relational boundaries and therapeutic communication and what resources are available to help. More information to follow. The Brain Injury Association of Michigan partners with the Traumatic Brain Injury Services & Prevention Council. The Council has developed an online course which provides basic information about brain injury. CEUs are available. This course is NOT a substitution for and SHOULD NOT be used in preparation for the CBIS Exam.Education
